Services
Dr. Hekking grew up playing in the creeks of Virginia, catching crayfish, salamanders, and anything else that crossed his path (including a snapping turtle!).
He didn't realize the depth of his connection to animals until his dog, Sable, passed away suddenly while in high school.
It was at that time that he dedicated himself to helping owners and pets develop their special connection and to keep it going as long as possible.
He has developed special interests in dental health and caring for senior pets.
At Etowah Veterinary Hospital, we offer a variety of services to care for your pet.
If you have any questions or would like more information on how we can care for your pet, please contact us today.
Our staff will get a chance to talk to you and see if you are having any trouble with your pet.
We will also go over diet, preventative medicine, and exercise to ensure that your pet is as healthy as possible.
Then, one of our veterinarians will do a complete physical examination on your pet.
It is always good to have a baseline in case your pet ever becomes ill.
We had an emergency with my Mother-in-law's dog over the weekend.
We called Etowah Veterinary Hospital and received an appointment immediately.
The staff was very friendly and the dog was taken care of with great care.
Two days later the Hospital called to see how the dog was doing and if we had additional questions.
We were thankful that they treated my Mother-in-law's dog as if it had always been a patient of theirs.
I would give them a 5+ on service and help in treating the dog.
I just recently started taking my dog to Etowah and I have only had the best customer service and vet care!
Here at Etowah Veterinary Hospital, we believe that the best care for your pets involves preventing problems before they arise.
During our wellness visits we examine your pet from whisker to tail, and everywhere in between.
We can evaluate important things like the lungs and heart, monitor dental health and ensure your pet is a healthy weight.
We can also discuss and answer any questions or concerns you may have about your loved one's activity or behavior at home.
As part of the adage "prevention is the best medicine, " we recommend keeping your pets fully vaccinated.
Spaying refers to the surgical procedure performed on female dogs and cats to render them infertile.
There are many benefits to spaying your female dog or cat.
Spaying before the first heat cycle in dogs greatly reduces the likelihood of mammary tumors to less than 0.5%.
If a dog is allowed to go through two heat cycles, approximately one in four will develop mammary tumors.
Additionally, spaying prevents diseases such as pyometra (infection of the uterus), ovarian and uterine cancer, as well as the sometimes messy heat cycle.
