Dr. Paul Averill started Averill Animal Hospital in 1978 as a house-call only practice in the Marietta area.
When the demand for his services increased, Dr. Averill opened a full-service practice in 1983 on Dallas Highway in a converted two-story residential home.
The staff of the original hospital included Dr. Averill as a solo practitioner and his wife, Donna.
In 1992, Dr. Matthew Nelson joined the practice as an associate veterinarian after he had worked in the hospital as a technician while he was in veterinary school.
