Services
Ryan and Helen Rutter have been providing veterinary care to farm animals in this area for greater than 15 years.
They are both graduates of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
They own a small farm in Athens county where they raise Murray Grey and commercial cattle.
Other farm residents include horses, a miniature donkey, goats, dogs and cats.
Dr. Ryan has owned horses and cattle his entire life.
An Ohio native, he has competed in rodeo events, and worked at a 100,000 acre cattle ranch in NM before veterinary school.
All patients can benefit from annual exams and routine vaccinations.
Each species has a specific set of recommended vaccinations that are tailored specifically to their age, breed and sex.
Set up an appointment today to discuss and implement these plans for your pets or livestock.
Horses have a specific type of teeth that erupt continuously throughout their life.
This, combined with their side to side chewing pattern, can cause sharp, painful points on your horse's teeth.
These points can cause discomfort which can lead to ulcerations, lacerations, and inadequate chewing of their food.
Here you'll find everything you need about Foggy Ridge Veterinary Service and how we can help you.
We have online forms for everything related to our Athens veterinarian, and information on what to expect on our visit.
Many dog owners admire the unique looks and personalities of purebreds, but also worry about the fate of millions of pets euthanized each year.
What many people don't realize is that there are specific breed rescue organizations for almost every breed of dog, placing dogs in need to new homes.
Horses can encounter health issues just as any other type of pet can.
Fortunately, the great majority of these issues can be prevented through regular wellness care and proper home care, or they can be treated by a veterinarian with proper training and expertise in equine health.
Horse owners will be pleased to know that our clinic can provide the necessary care for their entire menagerie.
Just as dogs and cats require core vaccinations from a young age, so must horses receive certain essential vaccines to protect them against serious illnesses.
Dental care for horses differs significantly from that of humans or even cats and dogs.
Due to their vegetarian diet and manner of eating, a horse's teeth work more like a gristmill, constantly grinding and mashing down their food.
The horse's teeth are therefore designed to keep growing as an adaptation to the manner in which they eat.
Therefore, horses usually need a dental checkup every six months to have their teeth floated (evened out) in order for the horse's bite to remain healthy, and so that their food is evenly ground for healthy swallowing and digestion.
