From the very start, we decided we were going to offer the pets that came to us the most progressive, high quality veterinary care available, and we have never wavered in that commitment. As the field of veterinary medicine has expanded, we have continued to offer more in-house services and procedures to ensure the best diagnostics and treatments for your pets.
We have gathered together a staff whose high level of skill, training, and experience is matched by their compassion and dedication to care for your pets as though they were their own. We are dedicated to the concept of fear-free veterinary care, and strive to make every visit a positive experience for both you and your pets. We will always care. We know how busy you are, so we are available most weekdays from 7:30am until 8pm and Saturdays until 1pm.
We can usually offer same-day appointments, and are happy to accommodate early morning drop-offs. We have all of the services your pet needs, including boarding and professional grooming.

Services
In 1979, Dr. Khalsa set out to create a veterinary hospital where every patient and every client would be treated with the kindness and compassion deserved by every living thing.
She wanted her hospital to be a place where the highest level of modern veterinary medicine would be available to her patients, and where she eventually would integrate the best of ancient healing modalities as well.
She wanted to gather a support staff who shared her vision of excellence, who were willing to cooperate openly and to work hard and go home at the end of the day tired, but deeply satisfied with a job well done, never having to wonder if they should have done something different or something more.

At Fountain City Animal Hospital, your pet gets the benefit of care given by many hands, many heads, and many hearts.
Our support staff is such an integral part of patient care here, to call us a "team" is an understatement.
Our goal is to work as one unified entity, from the reception desk all the way to the kennel area of the hospital.
We have systems in place to ensure that the right hand always knows what the left hand is doing, and every member of the staff plays her part excellently.
Dr. Khalsa, born in rural Pennsylvania and raised in New York City, attended Vassar College for her undergraduate education, and the University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1977.

One of the most important (and under-appreciated!) services we provide is comprehensive physical examinations of your pets.
You may feel that you're bringing your dog or cat to the office once annually just to get his "shots, " but the amount of information we gather about your pet's health on the exam table, even before any diagnostics tests are run, is often surprising.
Our years of experience allow us to develop a list of possible trouble spots while your pet is still on the exam table.
We use many of our senses, watching, feeling, listening, and even sniffing to help us evaluate your pet's health status.

A comprehensive vaccination program is the bedrock of wellness care for our pets.
So many life-threatening diseases can be totally avoided if we are conscientious about appropriately vaccinating our pets throughout their lives, and it is heartbreaking for us to see animals suffering and dying from diseases we know could have easily been prevented.
Fountain City Animal Hospital follows the American Association of Feline Practitioners' Feline Vaccination Advisory Panel's guidelines when making recommendations for your kitten's first immunizations, as well as for her booster shots as she ages.

When your pet does become sick or injured, we are fully prepared to take on any challenge.
The potential difficulty in zeroing in on the source of a pet's problem can be daunting, but we have developed great expertise in this area over the years and are often sought out for second opinions on particularly challenging cases.
We also have earned a tremendous respect from the clinicians at the veterinary teaching hospital at the University of Tennessee, based on a long history of thoughtful and careful diagnostics and treatment.
