Wren Abbott is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area.
She earned her bachelor's degree in English from University of California at Berkeley before beginning her first career as a print journalist.
She originally came to New Mexico to work as a crime reporter for the Rio Grande Sun newspaper in Espaola.
An interest in biology and animals led her to go back to school and ultimately earn a DVM degree from Colorado State University.
She loves working with exotic animals, including reptiles, birds and small mammals, but is a total sucker for her dog and cat patients too.
Rio Grande Animal Hospital welcomes all new clients.
We are strong advocates of communication and will partner with you to solve your pet's health care issues while providing the best care available.
During your first visit, we will take a medical history of your pet.

Pet insurance pays, partly or in total, for veterinary treatment of the insured person's ill or injured pet.
Some policies will pay out when the pet dies, or if it is lost or stolen.
As veterinary medicine is increasingly employing expensive medical techniques and drugs, and owners have higher expectations for their pets' health care and standard of living than previously, the market for pet insurance has increased.
Pet insurance companies are beginning to offer the pet owner more of an ability to customize their coverage by allowing them to choose their own level of deductible or co-insurance.
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any animal.
Dental disease leads to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream.
In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population in Albuquerque, NM.
In spite of these disturbing facts, many pet owners are not aware of the importance of dental care to their pet's health.
We have state of the art diagnostic tools that allow our staff to better diagnose your pet's condition or illness.
