Damonte Ranch Animal Hospital is one of the newest hospitals (opened July of 2011) serving South Reno and the surrounding communities.
We believe that your pets deserve the very best, which is why our beautifully constructed 3875 sq.ft.

To ensure the very best care of your dog and cat companions-from their earliest months to their golden years-we tailor vaccine protocols to the individual pet's lifestyle needs.
From annual physical exams-with an emphasis on preventative medicine such as parasite prevention programs-to microchipping, we recommend only the very best care to ensure a lifetime of priceless companionship.
Regular dental care is necessary to keep your pets free of periodontal problems.
Without it, progressive periodontal disease can set in and lead to serious, even life-threatening liver, kidney and heart infections.
All kittens should start their vaccination series when they are six to eight weeks of age.
The FVRCP vaccine (aka the upper respiratory vaccination) is typically given 3-4 times every 3-4wks until they are 4 months of age.
The Rabies vaccination is administered typically with the last round of vaccinations when they are approximately four months old.
The Feline Leukemia (FELV) vaccination is ideally administered to all cats when they are younger, or at the very least, to all that will go unsupervised outdoors.
On occasion at Damonte Ranch Animal Hospital, clients will have questions regarding breeding their pets.
In this section, we wanted to try to address the most frequently asked questions.
Please remember though, while reading this section, when dealing with reproductive issues, we are dealing with hormones and the circumstances of every breeding and birthing process are different.

It is recommended that a female not be bred until ideally she is 2 years of age or older.
There are many valuable medical benefits to having your pets spayed (the female procedure) or neutered (the male procedure).
For females, besides for putting an end to the inconvenience of bleeding heat cycles, when a pet is spayed before their first heat, their risk for developing mammary (breast) cancer is significantly reduced.
In addition, spaying a female pet eliminates the risk of a life-threatening pyometra later in life.
For the males, neutering decreases the urge to roam, fight as well as decreasing the chances to develop prostate problems, testicular cancer or serious perianal problems.
