Did you know that one of the most neglected aspects of pet health is dental care?
Did you also know that by providing your pets with regular dental care you can actually extend their life span?
As with people, oral disease in pets begins with bacteria in the mouth that harden and form plaque that adhere to teeth.
If these bacteria are not removed through regular care and cleaning by a veterinarian, they will continue to accumulate, harden into tartar, and can eventually lead to the development of periodontal disease.
Is your pet constantly scratching, biting or licking at the same area of skin?
Has your pet been experiencing hair loss or developing scabs or dandruff?
Have you noticed a change in your pet's skin, coat color, or texture?
Is there a bad odor coming from your pet's skin or ears?
If you notice your pet experiencing any of these symptoms, don't just ignore it and think that the problem will go away.
Irritation of the skin is typically caused by an allergic reaction to something in the immediate environment.
Diagnostic tools such as radiography (x-ray) units are critical for veterinary clinics for the simple reason that our pets can't talk to us and tell us what is wrong when they have a problem.
Sometimes, an external exam does not provide all the information a veterinarian needs to determine the overall health of your pet.
An important diagnostic tool that we use at Meridian Animal Clinic is digital radiography.
It can be extremely beneficial in helping our veterinarian locate broken bones, objects your pet may have swallowed, fluid buildup, tumors, enlarged organs, and the presence of pneumonia.
