Blood tests are an essential part of diagnosing what is ailing your pet, just as they are in human medicine.
Blood tests can tell the veterinarian a myriad of things, from whether your pet is dehydrated to whether he or she has anemia to whether your cat or dog is suffering from cancer.
Red blood cells are used to determine a number of factors.
The packed red blood cell count can detect a condition called polycythemia.
A high count indicates dehydration, while a low count can be an indicator of anemia.
When was the last time you had your pet's teeth cleaned?
According to the AVMA, pets who have never had a teeth cleaning have signs of dental disease by the time they are three years old.
For that reason, Animal Clinic of Union recommends that all pets have a yearly dental cleaning and oral examination.
Dogs and cats are prone to developing the same types of dental diseases and problems as humans, including gingivitis, periodontal disease, tooth decay, staining and cavities.
The process of dental decay and disease starts every time your pet eats.
