Our Doctors may refer you to a specialist, veterinarians who have completed advanced studies in specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care, if your horse must undergo a procedure that requires more precise knowledge and experience.
1. Payment is expected when services are rendered.
In order to focus on our patients' needs, customer service and minimizing costs, we do not bill unless by previous arrangements have been made with our office manager.
2. We accept debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, CareCredit) checks and cash.
All cards must be signed by the owner of the card.
3. When unexpected illness or injury strikes a horse, unexpected expense strikes as well.
Kleinpeter Equine Veterinary Services, LLC understands this and will work with you to set up a payment plan for you or assist in making some special arrangements through the CareCredit program.

A veterinary career was a clear and natural choice for him.
Upon graduation from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, he began serving the needs of the Baton Rouge equine community in 1978.
We know how important your horse is to you and we are pleased to provide 24 hour/ 7 day emergency service.
If you have an after-hours emergency, call the office number (225) 744-4671, a doctor will return your call as soon as possible.
Respiration rate: 12-20 breaths per minute (elevated RR's and effort can indicate respiratory distress, pain, and other problems).
Gut sounds: 2-3 per minute on both sides (an increase, decrease, or lack thereof could indicate colic).
Capillary Refill Time (time it takes for color to return to gum tissue after pressing and releasing it with your thumb): less than 2 seconds (A prolonged CRT can indicate dehydration, shock, severe blood loss, etc) Mucous Membrane Color (color of the tissues of the gums, nostrils, conjunctiva, and inner lips of the vulva): pink (red, pale pink, white, yellow, bluish purple indicate specific problems).
