In addition to almost 2 decades of small animal general practice, she spent a year at a busy emergency practice and provided behavior consultations for nearly 15 years.
Before vet school she got a BS, MS, and completed all coursework for a PhD in Engineering Mechanics, which provides her with a unique approach to medical and surgical cases.
She also volunteered thousands of hours at a local shelter while she was a student, and still donates time to several rescue groups.
One of the most important items of care for dogs and cats is their dental health.
Studies show that regular dental care at home and at a veterinarian can extend the life of a pet by 25%!
At All Creatures, Dr. Streit and Dr. Hughes have many years of experience in veterinary dental care.
Our veterinarians have a special interest in dentistry, and attend conferences around the country to insure we offer our pets the safest and most effective oral care.
Dental care at All Creatures includes all levels of oral care including cleaning and polishing, digital dental x-rays as necessary, and extractions if required.
Infected gums hurt and can be a "seed of infection" for internal organs!
Red gums are infected and painful.
The real problem is that most of the infection is below the gum line, making it invisible to us.
Periodontal disease causes the gum and bone to separate from the tooth roots, which results in tearing of the blood vessels below the gum line.
This provides an open route for bacteria to the bloodstream, resulting in potential infection in the liver, kidney, heart, brain and spinal cord.
Periodontal disease causes the loss of teeth!
