Powder Ridge Veterinary Hospital
Powder Ridge Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1987 by Dr. Larry Brooks. Dr. Brooks created a practice that was patient oriented and family friendly. Over the past several decades, the practice has provided veterinary care to pets whose owners have spanned several family generations. In 2018, Dr. Blaire Michael purchased the practice. Her goal is to continue to provide exceptional veterinary care to our patients and nurture the human-animal bond that so many pet parents experience.

Powder Ridge Veterinary Hospital strives to provide quality individualized care to each and every patient and their owners. We strongly support client education and encourage a team approach between our veterinarians and pet owners when creating a diagnostic/treatment plan that balances the pet and family's unique needs.
Services
From a young age, Dr. Michael always aspired to become a veterinarian.
She attended Colgate University where she graduated with a degree in biology.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Michael externed at the National Institutes of Health non-human primate facility where she provided veterinary care and obtained research data on various species of monkeys.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, Dr. Michael moved to Connecticut where she worked in both general day practice and 24 hour emergency referral hospitals.
At Powder Ridge Veterinary Hospital, we provide the full spectrum of pet care.

Annual wellness checkups can include teeth cleaning, diagnostic radiology and ultrasound, and a visit to our full service store.
We stock prescription drugs and prescription diets, which you can pick up when you visit or sign up to order online.

When the time comes, you can trust us for compassionate treatment of terminal illness and end of life care.
A wellness exam is an overall general health assessment of each patient and is performed at least every 12 months.
These examinations are very important to maintaining your pet's overall health and helps us get to know your pet and what is normal for them.
In addition to the physical examination, our trained staff will review and update recommended vaccinations and preventatives, provide dietary guidance and discuss any other health concerns.
Intestinal parasite screening, wellness labs and, for dogs, heartworm/tick testing will be addressed.
At Powder Ridge, we understand that anesthesia and surgery can evoke a very emotional response in a pet parent's heart While anesthesia unfortunately carries a small risk, we do everything possible to ensure the safety of your pet during a surgical procedure.
We start with a thorough pre-operative physical examination and bloodwork to ensure that no pre-existing conditions are present.
We tailor every anesthetic protocol to each patient based on weight, age, concurrent disease and procedure being performed-there is no "one size fits all approach".
During business hours, Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm, we provide sick and emergency care to your pets.
Since we are not open 24 hours, serious emergencies or pets requiring overnight care will be referred to one of the local emergency hospitals.
We partner closely with these facilities to ensure your companion receives exceptional, continuous care.
