Services
We offer boarding for pets who are current patients of Maplewood Animal Hospital.
We do this for the safety of your pet.
If a dog or cat is a patient, the hospital has information on its behavior, vaccination status and the use of flea and heartworm protection.
This enables us to better protect all boarders.
We do not take in feral or stray animals unless there is a medical emergency and in that case they are placed in isolation.
Preventive medicine requires a discussion of life style and owner concerns to ensure patient health and safety.
The owner and veterinarian develp programs for each individual and review what this entails.
This is critical if pets are to remain healthy into older stages of life.
When it comes to vaccinations, at Maplewood Animal Hospital we believe that the pet owner and the veterinarian need to discuss risks and benefits.
There are core vaccines that all animals should receive, barring severe life-threatening adverse reactions.
Vaccinations are a necessary part of pet care.
But in order to limit any side effects or problems, we always conduct an exam to ensure the animal is in good health and able to respond properly to any vaccines given.
It is important that owners understand that there may be a mild reaction to a vaccine, often soreness at the vaccination site, lethargy from 24-48 hours, more sleeping than usual and lack of appetite.
Any life-threatening reaction to a vaccine is extremely rare and will often occur within minutes or hours after the vaccine is administered.
If you are considering traveling with your pet. it is important to think ahead and find "pet friendly" hotels, campgrounds and resorts.
Always make sure you have the appropriate vaccination certificates, flea and tick preventative, heartworm medicine and other appropriate medications needed by your pet.
Keeping your pet's food and water the same, as at home, is also important.
In the case of international travel it is recommended that all owners check with the country embassy or counsulate to ensure that the most current importation rules are available.
There are over 12 different "pet insurance companies".
The issue of which insurance company we accept is a non-issue!
We accept all insurance companies.
The way insurance works, in veterinary medicine, is that the OWNER pays the invoice at the time services are rendered and then applies for a reimbursement from the insurance company.
Any information required, concerning the condition, diagnosis or treatment will be forwarded by Maplewood Animal Hospital LLC (MAH)to the appropriate insurance company.
