Dr. Wilwerding earned his DVM from Iowa State University in 1994 and has worked exclusively with companion animals throughout his career.
He spent three years in Maine working with an orthopedic surgeon, and has continued to develop his orthopedic surgery skills, including such procedures as fracture repair and stifle stabilization (TPLO, Tightrope and extracapsular).
He also has extensive experience in emergency/trauma and soft-tissue surgery.
He likes to say the operating room is his happy place as he's in there solely focused on helping a pet get well.

In 2010, Powers Pet Emergency and Specialty earned accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
This is notable because only 15% of all small-animal hospitals in the U.S. and Canada have earned this prestigious distinction, which requires a rigorous onsite evaluation every three years.
Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited.
At Powers, we undertook AAHA's stringent accreditation process because we hold ourselves to a higher standard-and you can trust that your pet is receiving care at a hospital that's demonstrated mastery of excellence in veterinary care.

They took such wonderful care of our sweet Tinkerbell over New Years Eve.
Such caring staff, techs and doctors.
Always caring on the phone when I called for updates since Tinkerbell had to spend the night.
I thank the entire staff for everything you did for our precious baby girl.
They treat your animal like the member of the family that they are to you! Very professional!
Great place, friendly staff and very attentive.
I'm so grateful they were there to help with my Toby's pain till his dental appointment in the next week.
