Established in 1903, Downtown Animal Hospital is Louisiana's first veterinarian hospital. Downtown Animal Hospital leads the region in offering new technologies and services to meet the demands of current healthcare practices. For over a century, our doctors have supported the community and advanced animal welfare. In 1903, the Quilty brothers founded Downtown Animal Hospital to address livestock healthcare needs and endemic disease issues.

Dr. Jay Carter bought the clinic in 1980 and transformed it into a thriving small animal veterinary hospital. Dr. Wade Woolman, along with his team of veterinarians, now carries on the tradition of providing excellent veterinary care with customized client services.
Services
At DAH, we use digital radiographs to see what is happening inside your pet's body.
This technology helps us detect abnormalities in the musculoskeletal system, heart, lungs, GI tract, and urinary tract.
Radiographs can be used to predict the number of puppies in pregnant females.
When needed, radiographs can be sent to board-certified specialists for additional evaluation.
Biopsy and cytology results are received within a week or sooner, if needed.
We photograph slides from the microscope for interpretation by a clinical pathologist in as little as a few hours.
Patients are monitored before, during, and after the procedure by a well-trained veterinary assistant.
Most patients are hospitalized and may spend at least one night in the clinic following surgery, at the doctor's discretion.
We have a class IV therapeutic laser that can be used post-op and on open wounds to promote healing and decrease pain.
It can also help alleviate pain in patients with arthritis.
We recommend regular teeth cleaning on dogs and cats to prevent illness and maintain healthy teeth.
At Downtown Animal Hospital, we will do our very best to make your pet's stay with us a happy and comfortable experience!
We will become home away from home for your pet while you are away on business, vacation, or in case of an emergency.
Our boarders are fed Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Skin and Stomach food, an egg and rice formula that reduces the chance of GI upset and is safe for food-allergic pets.
Of course, you are always welcome to bring your pet's own food and we will happily feed them according to their diet plan.
Listed below are a few websites that pet owners may find helpful.
With so much information on the internet, we recommend using caution when trying to find credible sources about your pet's health.
If you would ever like more information on a subject, we will happily provide correct information to you.
