CT scans show images of tissue that will show up on the monitor of white, black and shades of gray, called the gray scale.
The color helps identify tissues that are normal or abnormal, such as normal brain tissue versus a possible tumor in the brain.
The CT image is obtained by taking thin "slices" with the x-ray beams.
CT scans provide a differentiation of soft tissue compared to conventional x-rays, that superimpose the bone over the soft tissue.
Patients that are candidates for a CT scan are those with neurological disorders, such as seizure activity, behavior changes or problems walking.
