Services
Our goals are to arrive at an accurate diagnosis, set up the best therapeutic plan for your pet and minimize disease recurrence.
Arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
This involves extensive testing including skin scraping, skin cytology, bacterial and fungal cultures, biopsy, allergy testing, and video-otoscopic examination.
These tests do add expense to the overall bill, but are necessary to arrive at the most accurate diagnosis possible.
If you have budget concerns, please let the veterinary nurse or doctor know ahead of time.
Dr. Hansen received his veterinary degree from the University of Missouri (1980).
He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and is Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology.
He has served as Assistant Professor in Veterinary Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania and founded Dermatology and Allergy Service for Animals in 1986.
He is also a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology.
He served as Dermatology Chairperson for the American Animal Hospital Association EXCEL committee (90-94).
Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet.
Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability.
After each visit a referral letter will be sent to your veterinarian detailing all clinical findings, laboratory test results, diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
Maintaining communication with your veterinarian is crucial in maintaining the highest level of care for your pet.
Dr. Hansen is a veterinary dermatologist and only treats skin disease (including ears) and allergies.
When you arrive you will need to check in with the dermatology receptionist.
There are many clients that are being seen by a large number of different specialty services, so to allow us to better serve you, please check in with the dermatology receptionist as soon as you arrive.
3. When it is time for your pet to be seen a veterinary nurse will take you back to the room and finish taking the history, and performing preliminary baseline data such as skin scrapings and cytology.
While your primary care veterinarian may have already performed similar tests we still need to do these to more accurately assess your pet's problem.
Payment is expected at the time services are rendered.
Cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover are accepted means of payment.
It is difficult to estimate the cost of a dermatologic evaluation and treatment.
The initial exam is $180 and with that we almost always have to perform skin scrapings, skin/ear cytology, or otoscopic exams and therefore, the base price for the initial office visit is roughly $315.
The total cost including medications is difficult to predict.
While most cases are fairly straight forward, some are more complicated and present a greater challenge to diagnose and treat.
